Systems Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 at RC Status

Hyper-V 2.0 will be available as of October 2009 so it should come as no surprise that Microsoft will be pushing SCVMM R2 also, and they have - it is now available as a Release Candidate.

As it is a RC the list below should make the final cut to RTM, and there are some key features that we have all been waiting for!

  • Virtual machines live migration between Windows Server 2008 R2 clustered hosts
  • Network optimization detection during virtual machine placement
  • Hot addition and removal of virtual hard disks (VHDs)
  • Clustered Shared Volume (CSV) Support
  • Support for Sanbolic Clustered File System
  • Support for Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows
  • SAN Migration into and out of Clustered Hosts
  • Expanded Support for iSCSI SANs
  • Quick Storage Migration
  • Maintenance Mode for Hosts
  • Support for VMware Port Groups for Virtual Switches
